Grading a Turnitin Assignment and Grader Report

  1. Once you have entered grades into your Turnitin assignment, these grades will be automatically added to the Module Grader report.

Note: If Gradebook is enabled for students in the Course Settings, the grades will remain hidden from students until the assignment Feedback Release Date has passed. They will be able to view their Turnitin assignment grade by clicking on the Grades tab by scrolling to the associated Turnitin assignment.

Accessing Turnitin Grades in Grader Report

  1. You can access this report by clicking on the Grades tab on your course page.

Note: It is possible to enable access to Grades to students, which can be configured in the Course settings. Students will only have access to their own grades for this module.

  2. The Grader report outlines the list of gradable items available for the module and if any grades have been input/released and stored in the Gradebook. The Grader report also gives an indication of the course total determined by how the Gradebook weightings have been setup.
There are multiple ways within gradebook where you can view Turnitin grades, two examples are:

    User Report:

Click on the Grader report dropdown and select User report. This displays each gradable activity in a Moodle module (e.g. Turnitin assignments, Quizzes) and a breakdown of the released grades for each. Access specific individual's grades through the search bar navigation.

    Single View

Click on the Grader report dropdown and select Single View. This section of gradebook allows you to select a grade item from the module and see the grade applied, total range, general feedback and override functions. Grades for Turnitin assignments can be overridden from within this space.

  3. The Grader report also has the functionality to view and change gradable items, such as Turnitin, as well as organise them into categories. It is possible to organise all Turnitin Assignments into one category for example.

Important Note about the Visibility of Grades in the Moodle Grader Report

When you are setting up a Turnitin assignment for grading and communicating feedback, it is important that you set the Turnitin assignment Feedback Release Date correctly. Though the Feedback Release Date can be changed after setting up the Turnitin assignment, making changes to thIS setting has been known to cause an issues with the grades becoming visible in the Moodle course Grader report in advance of the release date. If you do need to make changes to the Feedback Release Date, always check the Moodle Grader report to ensure the grade item for the Turnitin assignment is still hidden from students.
It is also important to avoid hiding and showing the Turnitin assignment on the Moodle course page. Making changes to the assignment hide and show settings has also been known to interfere with how the Feedback Release Date releases grades back to the Moodle course Grader report. If you must change the hide and show setting for the Turnitin assignment, always check the Moodle Grader report to ensure the grade item for the Turnitin assignment is still hidden from students.
