The facility to request the deletion of a
Turnitin submission has been a
long-standing user request which has now
been implemented in the new (2025)
Turnitin Feedback Studio.
The Request deletion function
allows an instructor to request the local
(MIC) Turnitin administrator to
permanently purge a submission from the
Turnitin repository. The requester will be
asked for a rationale for the deletion as
part of the process.
There may be several reasons why the
removal of a submission are clearly
necessary, such as the inadvertent
duplicate submission of the same work
to two unrelated modules or the
unintended upload of a draft version
of work. The decision to delete a
submission must be considered
carefully before a request is made,
and must be justifiable. If there are
reasons for concern, there may be
value in making a note of the
circumstances giving rise to the
deletion in the event of later review
or investigation.
Student requests for the
deletion of submissions to allow for
resubmissions prior to an assignment
due date may be reduced by enabling
the Allow
resubmissions until due
date setting in
Assignment
Details.
Important Note
The deletion of a submission
from Turnitin causes a submission to
be purged from the Turnitin
repository. A deletion is final and cannot be undone once
completed. The submitted work will no
longer be available for similarity
reporting.
To request deletion of a submission
- Visit the module and the assignment on
which a submission is to be
deleted.
- Carefully identify the correct student
and submission in from the list of
submissions.
- Locate and click on the vertical
ellipsis (three dot) menu at then end
of the row for the submission to be
deleted.
- From the context menu that opens, choose the Request deletion option
- Review the Request permanent deletion dialogue that displays. Provide a Reason for the request, which is required by default: choose from the options. Should the reason not be covered by the provided options, select ‘Other’ and provide your own reason.
- Check the I understand that deleted cannot be recovered checkbox and click the Request Permanent Deletion button when satisfied with the requests.
- The MIC Turnitin administrator will be notified of your request. In the event that any additional information is required, the MIC Turnitin administrator will contact you. The submission requested for deletion will be hidden from your listing of Student submissions inbox in Turnitin Feedback Studio immediately and the student will be able to make a resubmission.
- In the event that the MIC Turnitin administrator has to reject the request, the submission will reappear in the Student submissions inbox.
Note: Please contact the LEAD team if your deletion request is urgent or if a request for deletion has not been approved in 2 working days.
