Turnitin Feedback Studio has been redesigned and provides a new interface and workflow process for both students and instructors. The new interface is intended to be more consistent in design, with a focus on being more accessible for all users, incorporating longstanding user requests introducing data-driven innovations to support academic integrity.

Among the changes that the new Feedback Studio includes are:

Revised Assignment Creation and Management

  • Assignment extensions for individual students;
  • Exclusion of templates provided to students for completion from the overall evaluation of similarity;
  • Regeneration of all similarity reports for an assignment at one time;
  • Feedback indicator presented to students highlighting that feedback has been provided and is available with confirmation that feedback has been accessed and reviewed for instructors.

Similarity Reporting

  • Similarity Reporting interface has been completely revised enabling easier and more accessible interrogation of similarities identified;
  • Pinned feedback functionality to assist instructors add and provide feedback for students;
  • Margin comments provides an enhanced means of viewing and accessing feedback for students;
  • QuickMarks and comments may be colour customised;
  • Match groups functionality which groups matches based on the usage of citations and quotations.

Grading and Feedback

  • Revised rubrics interface with an improved means of adding, updating and applying rubrics;
  • Improved methods for importing and exporting rubrics designed to facilitate sharing across colleagues;
  • Facility to archive rubrics that are no longer in use which reduces clutter in the interface;
  • Support added for decimal based grades;
  • Rubrics allow instructors to work with grade ranges rather than discrete values as before.

Features that are no longer supported by the new Feedback Studio

Some ‘classic’ Feedback Studio features are no longer supported within the new interface and implementation of Turnitin:

  • Assignment date displays and configuration within Moodle – as the new Feedback Studio environment is delivered in Moodle using LTI (Learning Tools Operability), all the Turnitin date and assignment configuration information is managed within the Turnitin interface. For further information, see the article How do I Create a Turnitin assignment on my Course Page?
  • Colouring of Similarity Percentage has been removed from the Student Submissions overview: the similarity identified continues to be displayed in a percentage. However, as similarity reports may be highly context specific, the colour bands used in ‘classic’ Feedback Studio are removed. Percentages of identified similarity are displayed on a neutral, light blue, background;
  • PeerMark – this is currently unavailable while the interface is being designed;
  • Grading templates.

Features to be added in future updates

At the time of preparation in July 2025, there are a number of planned enhancements for the new Feedback Studio including:

  • Facility for students to preview their uploads as part of the submission process;
  • Support for very large class sizes (that is, classes receiving more than 1,000 submissions);
  • Instructor’s capacity to save assignment settings for future use;
  • Voice and video comments for assignments.
The progress of these features can be reviewed on the Turnitin Feedback Studio Roadmap [External Link].
