Group Mode changes within Moodle
4.5 enables how different groups of
students interact with an activity or a
resource. There are 3 main modes No groups, Separate groups (where
groups cannot see each other's
contributions), and Visible groups (where groups can see but not participate
in others' contributions).
- Within the course page you seek to implement group mode features on, ensure to toggle Edit mode on in the top right corner of the course page.
- Select where you want to add a group-based activity or resource and select the plus icon or the add an activity or resource button.Or
- When selected, the Add an Activity or Resource menu will open. Select the chosen activity you wish to apply group-mode changes on.
- Step through the selected activity settings as normal and Save and return to course.
- Now to add Group mode to this activity. Click on the three-dot ellipsis appearing on right of the created activity. This opens a dropdown where you can select Group mode.
- You will be given three options within group mode: No group, Separate groups, Visible groups. Please select the setting which you would like to apply to the Activity or Resource. Separate groups and Visible groups are indicated as different icons beside the three dot ellipsis as indicated below.Separate groups:
Visible groups: - Once you have applied group mode to an activity, if you want to change Group mode settings such as adding restrictions or grouping options, select the three ellipsis button beside your created forum. Then select Edit settings.
- In edit settings select the Common Module settings where you can alter group settings.
- An additional feature that has been added is that you can now view Activity Completion at module page level. This can be accessed by selecting the completion dropdown and clicking Edit conditions.
- These conditions can then be accessed and altered by teachers for each activity or resource. This allows Teachers to see a breakdown of group completion.
