Quick grading lets you enter grades and feedback for multiple students directly on the View/grade submissions page.

Note: Do not use Quick Grading if multiple lecturers are grading in a course at the same time as scores can be inadvertently overwritten by other graders. Also, this method is not compatible with grading with rubrics or marking forms and is not recommended for online text submissions. In these cases, you will need to use the detailed grading view.

Enter grades and feedback using the Quick Grading view, as follows:

  1. Below the filter options in the Submissions tab, select the Quick grading check box. Once you select the Quick grading option, Moodle will remember the setting the next time you open this Submissions page.

Quick grading checkbox selected in submissions tab
  2. Under Status section of submissions, ensure Marking Workflow is set to ‘In marking’ to ensure grades and feedback entered will not be visible to students.                                                                                  Under status section of submission, marking flow changed to in marking

Note: The ‘Quick grading’ option will not be present if you are using a marking guide to grade student submissions.

3. Enter the students' grades and feedback comments in the sections displayed.                                                                                                                  Grade and feedback comments entered for student

4. If you want students to be notified of grade and feedback release check the Notify students box and Click Save.

Notify student selected on and the save button highlighted

Note: You must click ‘Save’ before navigating to another page or you will lose grades and feedback comments.

‘Submission comments’, if enabled in the assignment settings, are a two-way private conversation between a student and a lecturer and are visible to students immediately, regarding of the marking workflow state. Therefore, use the ‘Feedback comments’ field to give feedback, not the submission comments.
