Module logs allow you to generate a report showing information related to a module that can be filtered according to participant, activity, date or other options.
To obtain a log report from Moodle:
- Browse to a Moodle module for which you with to obtain a log.
- If not already displayed, open the Administration panel on the left by clicking the orange Hamburger icon at the top left of the screen.
- From the menu list locate Course administration | Reports (expand if necessary) and click on Logs.
- The Log choice page will open and provide a variety of options: choose one or more to create your report. The more options you complete, the more specific your report.
The provided filters allow you to restrict:
- Courses – choose a course: the default is the current course
- Groups* – select a group: the default is All groups
- Participants– select a specific participant: the default is All participants
- Days– choose a specific date: the default is
- Activities – choose an activity to filter: the default is All activities. Select the list to narrow the filter to one activity.
- Actions – choose among the actions Create, View Update or Delete as required: The default is All actions
- Events – select an event filter from Teaching, Participating and Other: the default is All events.
- Selecting Teaching filters generates results based on actions a teacher might have taken (e.g., grading a student or creating an activity or resource).
- Selecting Participating filters generates results based on actions a student or participant might have taken (e.g., posting to a course or making a submission to a Moodle Assignment).
Note: that only one item per choice/dropdown may be filtered at a time.
Once you have selected and set the filters you require click Get these logs. The page will refresh, displaying logs based on your chosen filters. Reports may take up to a minute or so to generate depending on the number of participants in the module and the range of options selected.
*This option is only available if Groups is set to Visible groups or Separate groups in Course Settings.
