Features on Moodle messaging include:

  • Personal messaging and notation.
  • Private and group chat.
  • Link availability to messaging groups.
  • Notification of new messages  are sent to email.
  • Double pane view of chat and chat inbox.
  • Teacher ability to delete messages in group chats.
  • Teacher ability to mute chats, keeping email notifications from being sent.
  • Teachers may elect trusted participants to share content such as links and HTML content including imbedded videos.
To access the messaging function, click on the chat icon on the top right corner of the screen:

To update notification settings click on the gear icon on the right of the messaging window.

The Personal Space is automatically starred as a favourite. Type in the text box provided and click on enter or the Send button to write your own personal notes.

Use the search field at the top of the message window to search the directory to message an individual:

Click on the individual to begin messaging; other features such as Add to contacts are available by click on the ellipsis icon to the right of the individuals name
