MIC staff and students who have College-issued accounts can easily access Microsoft OneDrive. Access is device and operating system independent, which means that it can be accessed using a web browser, a dedicated OneDrive app on a supported laptop, desktop or mobile device, and if configured, through File Explorer.

Web Browser access to OneDrive

  1. Open your preferred web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge);
  2. Enter onedrive.com in the address bar and press Enter to browse to the OneDrive site;
  3. If requested, Sign in to your MIC Microsoft Account: click the Sign In button, enter your MIC Microsoft account credentials and sign in.

    If you are using a public or shared computer, consider unchecking the "Keep me signed in" option for security.
  4. You will be directed to your OneDrive dashboard, where you can view and manage your files and folders.
  • If you are not taken directly to OneDrive, locate and click on the 9-square ‘waffle’ (App Launcher) at the top left of the browser window to display your available Microsoft Apps; choose OneDrive from the available choices.

Windows Desktop access to OneDrive using the OneDrive App

To use this option, you may need to download and install the OneDrive app from Microsoft. If you use a College-issued device, this may require the support and authorisation of ICT Services to install and configure.

  1. Click Start at the bottom left of the Windows screen and type OneDrive. If installed, the OneDrive App will be displayed and can be clicked on;
  2. When the app opens you may be asked to Sign in. Use your MIC Microsoft account credentials to sign in;
  3. Once Signed in, follow the instructions provided to choose the folders you want to synchronise between your local device and the OneDrive cloud.

When OneDrive is active on your Windows device, a blue OneDrive cloud icon will be displayed in the Hidden Icons section of the taskbar (click the ^ symbol to the left of the clock). The OneDrive app can also be accessed through File Manager as OneDrive – Mary Immaculate College or by opening the OneDrive app from Start.

Mac Desktop access to OneDrive using the OneDrive App

To use this option, you may need to download and install the OneDrive app from the Apple App Store. The app is free. To do this, you will need to have your Apple ID credentials available to validate the installation. Alternatively, you may visit the OneDrive website and follow the Download link and instructions from the menu bar.

  1. From Launchpad, locate or search for the OneDrive app and launch it;
  2. When the app opens you may be asked to Sign in. Use your MIC Microsoft account credentials to sign in;
  3. Once Signed in, follow the instructions provided to choose the folders you want to synchronise between your local device and the OneDrive cloud.
When OneDrive is active on your Mac device, a grey OneDrive cloud icon will be displayed on the menubar at the top of the screen. The OneDrive app can also be accessed through Finder as OneDrive under Locations or by opening the OneDrive app from Launchpad.

Important to Remember

  • Ensure your device is connected to the internet for live syncing and file updating.
  • Ensure that the OneDrive application, if using this method, is updated from time-to-time to ensure you have the most recent features and security patches.
